Stilla Mills Flour Packaging

Research-led flour brand identity and packaging designed to celebrate family connection, usability, and sustainability as and alternative to the usual paper bag

Stilla Wheat Flour was a student branding project for an organic flour company rooted in South African family baking traditions. The brief included competitor and audience research, followed by the creation of a full visual identity system. Inspired by themes of family, community, and heritage, the brand aimed to create an emotional connection with consumers while promoting ease of use and environmentally conscious production. The final outcome included a logo, three packaging variations, and supporting advertising that positioned Stilla as both warm and progressive.

The design direction balanced heritage with modern practicality, using bold typography and warm visual cues to create strong shelf presence while reflecting the brand’s family-focused personality. The packaging concepts explored a more user-friendly and environmentally considerate alternative to traditional flour bags through a thicker paper structure, a tear-off carry handle, and a cardboard zip-lock reseal mechanism for easier storage and reuse after purchase.

The three product variants were unified through a consistent visual system while remaining easy to distinguish at a glance. Each pack also featured humorous, familiar phrases inspired by things a mother might say while baking — such as “Did you remember to turn the oven on?”, “Are those egg shells in the batter?” and “Did you remember to add salt?” These playful touches reinforced the brand’s warmth and relatability, while the shelf talker line “Did you remember the flour?” acted as a memorable in-store prompt for shoppers. A bulk packaging asset was also created as a cardboard sleeve that holds all three boxes together by enclosing the handles, making the range easier to purchase, carry, and display as a set.
